Surrey Heath Borough Council has sent out the 2022/2023 Council Tax Notices. Please check it carefully as there has been a change to the Council Tax Support Scheme. If you have been receiving Council Tax benefit, you may receive a different amount of support. Your Council Tax Notice may now say you will receive less or nothing towards your Council Tax from April 2022.
Surrey Heath Council has an Exceptional Hardship Fund for residents in genuine exceptional hardship. If the new Council Tax puts you into this category then do contact the Council. The Exceptional Hardship Policy is here:- https://surreyheath.gov.uk/exceptional-hardship-fund-policy
If you are paying your Council tax over 10 months you can request to pay over 12 months to lower the payment amount in your monthly budget.
The Government announced that around 20 million households in England in council tax bands A-D will get a £150 rebate from April. The benefit includes around 95% of rented properties. Second homes or empty properties will not benefit.
For people who pay council tax by direct debit, the rebate will go directly into bank accounts. For those who do not pay council tax via direct debit, your Council will confirm how the rebate will be paid to you. Watch out for scams. Please make sure that communication is from your local council before providing payment details.
